Nugolo
A greenhouse-like dining room near Sant'Ambrogio where tables circle a glassed-in open kitchen and the plates lean on herbs, flowers and tomatoes from the restaurant's own garden.
Nugolo is built around a greenhouse: the open kitchen sits behind glass in the middle of the room, with tables arranged around it among ceiling-high plants. Founder Nerina Martinelli, a former food buyer in London, started with a vegetable garden that now grows some 200 tomato varieties, and edible flowers and herbs from it run through the menu. Executive chef Luca Grimaldi cooks a compact list of meat, fish and vegetarian plates, offered as two or three courses plus dessert or as a tasting menu. The mood stays relaxed and colourful.
Best for: A creative dinner with a garden accent
