Trattoria Sergio Gozzi
A lunch-only, family-run Florentine trattoria tucked among the San Lorenzo market stalls, serving peposo, Florentine tripe and fried meat croquettes under a vaulted, chandelier-hung ceiling.
Sergio Gozzi hides behind the leather stalls of Piazza di San Lorenzo, a family-run lunch room with a vaulted ceiling, wrought-iron chandelier and walls hung with framed pictures. It opens only at midday, Monday to Saturday, and fills with market traders and people who know the address. The cooking is plain Florentine: a dark, peppery peposo, trippa alla fiorentina in tomato, crisp fried polpette, and a Chianina bistecca for those who want the full production. Portions are modest and prices gentle, which leaves room for a second plate or a tiramisù.
