Maria Isabel
Laura and Sayat Ozyilmaz's coastal Mexican restaurant in Presidio Heights, pairing Guerrero-inspired seafood and house-nixtamalized masa with Northern California produce, plus an award-winning bar devoted to Mexican spirits.
From the chef couple behind Dalida, Maria Isabel is named for Laura Ozyilmaz's mother and sister, and its cooking draws a line from her home state of Guerrero to the California coast. Corn is nixtamalized in-house every day for tortillas and masa dishes, and the menu leans on local seafood: aguachile negro with yellowtail and Monterey Bay squid, a Santa Barbara uni tamalito, black cod zarandeado. A seasonal chef's tasting menu runs alongside the a la carte list. Evan Williams' bar reaches past tequila and mezcal into sotol, bacanora and raicilla, and won Michelin's 2026 Exceptional Cocktails Award for California.
Best for: Ambitious Mexican food and cocktails
