Castello di Verrazzano
Giovanni da Verrazzano's birthplace above Greve, where booked tours of the Renaissance gardens and historic cellars end at the table with organic wines and a lunch built on the estate's farm produce.
The castle where the navigator Giovanni da Verrazzano was born in 1485 is still a working Chianti Classico estate, run by the Cappellini family since 1958. Food here comes as part of a booked experience rather than a walk-in restaurant: the Wine and Food Experience pairs a guided walk through the Renaissance gardens and old cellars with a tasting of the organic wines and a full lunch of farm and zero kilometre produce. Saturdays bring a farmhouse dinner that opens with an aperitivo on the panoramic terrace, and Sundays a long lunch. Reserve through the estate's own booking page before driving up.
