Wormwood
San Diego's absinthe bistro on 30th Street: slow-drip fountains, a brick courtyard and a French menu built for lingering.
Wormwood opened in late 2021 in the former Jayne's Gastropub space in University Heights, billed as San Diego's first absinthe bar, with the spirit poured the traditional way from slow-drip fountains. The rooms recall vintage Paris, and a brick-walled courtyard leads to a semi-private garden room, Le Jardin Secret. The French menu runs from canapés and Kaluga caviar service to agnolotti, lamb shank and steak, with a five-course Carpe Diem chef's dinner for those who want the full evening.
Best for: Special-occasion dinners and absinthe-curious date nights
