Tullio a Montebeni
A family trattoria in the hamlet of Montebeni above Fiesole since 1958, where the bistecca comes grilled over oak embers or, more unusually, breaded and fried.
Tullio a Montebeni began in 1958 as a fruit and vegetable shop in a village of farmhouses, fed hunters with bread and salumi, and slowly became a trattoria. Paolo, Tullio's son, runs it today with his family, and the grandparents' wood fireplace is still in daily use. Start with the Antipasto Tullio, a spread of cured meats, crostini, bruschette and fried sage and pecorino. Then choose the bistecca: classic from the grill, or the breaded and fried prussiana, a house specialty. Dinner runs Tuesday to Sunday with weekend lunch, and booking by phone is mandatory.
