Tyson Cole's acclaimed Austin sushi house brings its nontraditional Japanese cooking to Wynwood, serving pristine crudos, oak grilled plates and wagyu nigiri in a warm walnut dining room built for lingering.

Uchi, which means home in Japanese, arrived in Wynwood in early 2021 from Hai Hospitality and James Beard Award winner Tyson Cole. The kitchen treats sushi as a starting point rather than a rulebook: hama chili pairs yellowtail with ponzu and Thai chili, walu walu is oak grilled with candied citrus, and the hot rock showcases Westholme wagyu. The room mixes walnut paneling, cream banquettes and Elan Byrd's woven wall hangings, with a sushi counter and a patio. Come early for the daily happy hour or settle in for the ten course omakase.
