Mourad Lahlou's Outer Richmond original, reborn in 2019, where the chicken basteeya, bright spreads and family style tangia show why his Californian take on Moroccan cooking still leads.

Mourad Lahlou opened Aziza on Geary in 2001, named it for his mother, and in 2010 it became the first Moroccan restaurant in the United States to earn a Michelin star. After a long closure it returned in 2019 with a lighter room of pale plaster and a colorful bar. The menu still weaves California produce through Moroccan spice: start with the trio of spreads and flatbread, keep the golden basteeya of chicken confit and spiced almonds, then share a laacha platter such as the slow cooked shortrib tangia. Dinner runs Wednesday through Sunday, with brunch on weekends.
